  • Nationally accredited Universities University of Phoenix?

Posted by admin on May 30th, 2009 and filed under university universities | 4 Comments »

Is the University of Phoenix in the Education Directory: Colleges and Universities as published by the Superintendent of Documents, Washington, D.C.?

it has regional accreditation through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and other accreditations for several (but not all) of its programs. It does not seem to have national accreditation.

For access to the Education Directory: Colleges and Universities, call a library reference desk and ask if it’s listed there.

It is basically a proprietary school, and not a respected name. However, it is a member of the Colleg Board.

how to search for professor's home pages in computer science??………..using google or any other sources

Posted by admin on May 30th, 2009 and filed under university home page | 3 Comments »

I am b.tech 3rd yr student in india. i am planning for summer internship in European countries or in Canada.
but i am finding problem in searching prof. home pages from that specific country………Google displays most of the links of U.S university.

    i search using " prof. home page+computer science+ Canada"
    using advanced search.
but that does not shows good result
    1) please provide me specific searching techniques.

    2) please provide me with other sources of applying

    3) if you know any institutions offering summer research internship for UG students ………..please send me the link.

Well, one way is to look for a listing of all bibliographies of computer science. There are only a few. Google should bring them up for you. Many authors happen to be professors.

Another is to use google scholar to look for papers on some topics. Many authors happen to be professors here as well.

If you know of any established conferences, look for its chairs and other office bearers. Just another way to proceed.

What does a University look at if you already have your associates degree from a community college?

Posted by admin on May 30th, 2009 and filed under university of | 3 Comments »

I am currently in a community college with a 3.9 GPA and working for my associate’s degree to save some money, and I am planning on attending a University after to get my bachelors degree. What does a University look at when you are applying and all ready have your associate’s degree? Is it the GPA, were you got the degree from, or something else? I appreciate any information that you could give me.

    Hi,
I attended community college before transferring to a university ( Go Rowan!) and I can tell you that they look at your GPA, and what classes you have taken, and your major. You must be careful, as I unknowingly took Junior level classes at the CC that did not transfer….I had to redo them.
( It's a business…right?) Check out how popular your major is at the university you want to transfer to. Some people try to transfer directly into a highly competitive major, and are told flat out no because they only have so many spots available, and take currently enrolled students only. (Luckily I found that out before I tried to transfer….that would have happened to me I am sure.) Transfer over to a major that is less competitive, then try to attempt to get in once you are there if you hear it is highly competitive or has limited spots. Most people have a least a semesters worth a credits to play around with in the gen ed or elective dept, so you wont be wasting time. Also….My university was TERRIBLE with paperwork (10 yrs ago) and told me after I had been accepted "Sorry….we have no records….." Of course I was a basket case and called everyone in the world, and told them I had the letter of acceptance, yadda yadda….I got the basic bureaucratic response of "If it aint in the computer…" ANYWAY…..after hours of calls, I found out there is a secret backdoor (at least 10 yrs ago) into universities…..called "non-matriculated"….The lady who finally felt sorry for me told me that you can enroll as a non matriculated student, (not an official student) and take classes…then apply while you are taking the classes….once you kick butt and get a 4.0…how can they deny you? You have already proven you can do the work…AND the nonmatriculated classes convert to accredited classes after you are officially enrolled…cool…I dont know if this is still the case, but check it out in case you need the back door.(Hey…it worked for me)…Hope this helps.
OH…almost forgot….many states have an agreement with the state universities(within state) for guaranteed acceptance if your GPA is over 2.5…check this out in your state.(NJ has this if you are transferring form a CC to a state U within the state you live) But not necessarily into your desired major.Good luck! One more thing….If you apply directly into a highly competitive major….you may need letters of recommendation, volunteer hours, and a really kick butt letter where you praise the heck out of their "highly esteemed" program (This kiss butt letter worked for me like a charm)…if your major is art, a portfolio review may be required. Good luck!

What would be the primary address for a university?

Posted by admin on May 30th, 2009 and filed under address of university | 1 Comment »

I'm filling out some information and I'm not certain what office (i.e. registrars, admissions) would be the primary address.

For almost anything besides your specific program office it would probably be the registrars office. If it is only to do with a specific course or your program elements it might be better to contact that office directly

Does Boston University send an email confirmation when you get in?

Posted by admin on May 30th, 2009 and filed under university email | 1 Comment »

I found out I got into BU after checking online a few days ago and i am a little surprised that I have not yet received any email confirming my acceptance. The only reason I found out was because I had been going on my applicant status link nearly every day for the past week. Is this usual case for people who get accepted? The only reason I ask is because when I got in to Northeastern i received an email that same day telling me to check online.

I did not receive an email when I was accepted. I think you will have to wait for your letter.

I want to go abroad for higher education. How to apply to any foreign university?

Posted by admin on May 30th, 2009 and filed under go to university | 3 Comments »

    Hello friends,
I want to go abroad for higher education. I want to get admission to a university of any English speaking country such as Canada, Australia, UK and US.
I want to pursue master degree from any recognized university.
What are the exams i have to face to get an admission to university and what are the procedure to apply to any foreign university? When to apply to those universities?
I don't know much about these things , so tell me clearly so that i can understand.

I have another question. My stream is electronics.I am a graduate student. Can I study any other subjects in master degree?

    G'day,

From the 4 countries you mentioned, Australia is most likely have the lowest cost of living, and probably the lowest tuition fee as well due to currency exchange. For Australia, on top of tuition fees, you will need to pay for campus fee (vary from each uni) and Overseas Student Health Cover (abt AUD$350/yr) and text books (abt AUD$200). These are the rough estimate of the fees for your study.

Before coming to Australia, you will need to pay the fee for student visa processing and health check-up. Depending on your country of origin you may also be required to take an IELTS test for proof of your English proficiency for application to uni and for visa (www.ielts.org).

You can apply for different Masters course, so it doesn't have to follow your previous bachelor degree course. To be eligible for a Masters course in Australia, you will need to have the degree that deemed as equivalent to Australian Bachelor Degree. You will need to fill in the application form and send them together with the certified copy of all of your academic transcripts. If they cannot accept you for the Masters course, they may offer you a place in their Bachelor degree course with credit transfer, so you do not have to study from year 1 again.

There are only 42 (soon to be 43) universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly controlled, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content.

To find out the latest info abt course that you are interested in taking and where it is offered, I suggest you to go to the Dept. of Education, Science and Training website (http://cricos.dest.gov.au) or IDP Education Australia (www.idp.edu.au). It will give the list of institutions that are able to offer courses to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia. The info abt fees and requirements are available from the universities' websites. Please make sure that the information you are accessing are the one for International Students. It will also tell you when can you start your course (Feb or July intakes). You can apply as early as you can, since the admissions process can take abt 2-3 weeks, depending on the day of the year.

Hope this helps. Good luck for your study :)

How and why do civilizations succeed, fail, and evolve? Is the United States succeeding, failing, or evolve?

Posted by admin on May 30th, 2009 and filed under succeeding | 5 Comments »

I am doing a paper in my history and english class. We have to do it on a civilization of our choice. I picked the arabic civilization. In order to do my paper we need to answer the above question. “How and why do civilizations succeed, fail, and evolve?”, We also need to explain where the united states stands in this positon. “Is the United States succeeding, failing, or evolving?”

Civilisations spread, but eventually they become politically stagnant, corrupt and are no longer able to progress (see examples with Rome, and even colonial empires such as the British Empire).

With America, there is an interesting article by Noam Chomsky about that.

How do people transfer from Community Colleges to 4 year University?

Posted by admin on May 30th, 2009 and filed under university | 3 Comments »

Hi, I heard most of community college students transfer from community colleges to University or attend university after their 2 years with Assosiate degree. After completing your first year at community college, can you transfer to universities such as University of Washington with the Assosiate's degree and certain amount of GPA and if so, how much GPA do you need in average? Also, if you complete 2 years of education with Assosiate's degree in Community college, are you pretty much guaranteed to attend 4 year universities such as University of Washington? Thanks for the answers in advance!

Make sure the schools are each accredited or else classes at community college may not transfer to the Univ.
Get in contact with a counselor at the Univ to make sure that your classes correspond to the major at the Univ. For example: Your AA in Business may not require you to take Accounting II, but your BS in Business probably does…if your community college offers it, take it there!! Most likely it will be a lot easier and cheaper.
Most of the time, if you go to a Univ within same state as you received your AA, you are guaranteed to attend, of course your GPA has to be acceptable for the major your are choosing at the Univ.
