Universities are expensive. It’s an ethical dilemna that we have to go into 150K of debt just to try to obtain the American dream.
Universities have a lot of requirements that have little to do with the jobs of accounting and engineering.
In the distant (maybe not so distant) past these jobs were trained through free apprenticeships, not university, and you didn’t have to start in 6 figures of debt just to try to obtain a middle class job.
I think you are correct in that the university system is not the best way to educate many professions including engineering and accounting. In Great Britain, medical doctors are trained for the medical profession right after high school (their equivalent) and omit the courses normally required in a liberal arts education or the first two years of a University in America. If I recall they spend four years in med. school followed by two years of internship and another year or two if they are in a specialty. Therefore, they can be out and practicing medicine after six years or 23 or 24 years old or 25 or 26 with a specialty. I think accountants and engineers should spend 2 years in a school or university and another 2 years as interns with a business. After this and passing an exam, they should be fully qualified (certificated engineer or chartered accountant). The same could be done for teachers, lawyers, and almost any profession. Your point is well taken and the system should be changed. Very good idea on your part.
When I’m done university, I want to be able to teach french and english. What I don’t understand is what I have to write on my application in order to be able to do that.
I am currently in gr. 12, applying for the first time and thinking of applying to Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.
The requirements for a teacher varies by state. You will need a certain number of subject matter classes as well as prescribed education classes.
You will probably not be able to do all three of the things listed above as an undergraduate. Take one language and education classes. Your state may also require that you pass certain tests. You can also contact your own state department of education for specific information./ The certification requirements for your state will also be found below./
So me and some friends were planning a prank to play on another university. Walk up to a podium and interrupt a university professor by taking the mic and saying a few words and leaving.
Are there any legal consequences to this (legal)?
We go to a totally different university.
Yes, trespassing, public mischief, etc., and that means an adult criminal record which will make it hard for you to get a job. And if by this act, you bring disrepute upon your own university, you may find yourself expelled by your own school for something you did elsewhere (and yes, they can do this). I suggest you don’t do this! You may think it is funny but no one else will and the consequences will be painful for you!
*****
Addendum: If you take that mike from the person speaking with any kind of force or if the speaker fights back, you could end up charged with criminal assault. Felonies don’t look good on your permanent record!
In England anyone can go to university if they have the grades, money isnt really an issue at all because you can get a loan from the government very easily.
However some friends of mine in America were saying how they couldnt afford to go to university. Why? What do you have to pay? Do you get loans?
I’m only 14 and I’d be grateful if someone could explain this to me a bit more. Thanks!
Yes, I’m aware of the differences, but many Americans don’t realize that U.K. and continental universities do not charge the high fees that ours do.
We have two types of universities/colleges here: public (state supported) and private. The state-supported schools charge relatively low fees for tuition, room, and board, especially to residents of the state in which a given school is located. (Every U.S. state has as least one system of public universities; some have more than one.) However, "low" doesn’t mean free. Even our state-supported schools charge more than U.K. residents would have to pay.
Our private universities and colleges are very, very expensive, costing tens of thousands of dollars each year.
So, how do Americans pay? They apply for financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, and loans. Many of the private schools (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc.) are extremely well-endowed and have a lot of financial aid money available. They give accepted students financial aid packages, which can be extremely generous. That’s how I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees. Some of them no longer require students to take out loans so that they won’t graduate with high debt burdens.
But getting into these generous schools is often difficult, and attending a less generous school with less financial aid money available can be a real burden on the pocketbook. It can require students to take out very large loans in addition to whatever grants and scholarships they can get and to whatever they and their parents can pay out of pocket. Many people do it, but the loan repayments aren’t easy.
Does that answer your question?
I need to support my research essay with reliable sources. University sites were suggested, but I need ideas.
Also, what other sites are good sources with excellent information?
Thank You!
You will find some good info at http://www.electro-breeze-supply.com/uv_air_cleaners.html. This is a great website for finding facts about indoor air quality. All of the sites for Air Life Environmental Products are great sites for information. Another of their sites is http://www.allergy-relief-air-purifier.com/ or you could visit http://www.airlifeone.com/. I hope this helps.
I am a British student and am about to enter university. I am looking to get involved in the music industry, and am wondering which degree would be more beneficial to me: a Combined Honours degree in Music and Business; or a Bachelor’s degree in Music with a follow-up course in Music Production.
My mate did midi-sequencing in University and now He has a drum and bass label.
I am doing a diploma in IT at the moment, and I am now looking at university courses for next year. What are some of the good universities for studying website design in the UK? I am looking to do a honours degree or a foundation degree.
I am also looking for a university with good night life and student accomodation.
Thanks, but I am looking to do a website design degree, not a general computing science degree. I know you can do them at a few places.
There are two parts to a website; the graphics and the things that you can do with the site. Two different skill sets and taught quite differently. Some people will claim to be able do both but they require different kinds of brain so it isn’t really possible.
To study graphic design you will need to go to Art school.
For the ‘parts that move’ you will read Computing at a regular uni. This will give you the skills to create the dynamic part of the website plus teach you many other important areas relating to websites such as security, databases, distributed processing etc.
I’m applying to university this year and am seriously considering sending in applications to several universities overseas.
However, the few that I have in mind aren’t very well known where I reside, and I’m concerned that post graduation this may create some problems for me when the time comes for me to establish a career.
So my question to you is: do you think that if I were to attend a more ‘unknown’ university overseas, would it have much of an impact on me when trying to establish a career in my native country?
Thanks for the help and advice!
