  • why do unwanted pages keep popping up when my blocker is on?

Posted by admin on January 2nd, 2010 and filed under university home page | 1 Comment »

any time I open a page or even return to my home page I get another tab openning up with a site for FULLSAIL University. I don’t know how to stop this?

Although <FULLSAIL University> seems to be a respectable school according to what I found on the net, your question indicates that you might have somehow gotten some adware installed on your machine. Please do a spywarescan to try and get rid of the problem.

How much roughly would it cost to use a printer at home?

Posted by admin on December 16th, 2009 and filed under university home page | 7 Comments »

I always print-out any documents at uni - It costs 5p per page (black and white)… I’m now considering buying a printer/scanner to use at home , as using the university’s printers is getting a bit inconvenient. Plus, I sometimes need to print stuff quite quickly…

So, roughly, how much does it cost per page to print at home, ignoring the price of the printer, but considering say the ink and paper.

    thanks

If you get an average HP laser printer, they can yield from anywhere of 2500 to 5000 pages per cartrdige. The cost is roughly 4 cents a page and you don’t have to pay for transport or taking the bus etc… If you calculate all that, it would be cheaper than 4 cents a page.

Here is a good link… The offijet 6500, wireless. This is actually cheaper to run than the laserjet which would narrow the cost per page down to 2 or 3 cents a page. This all-in-one is very well rated and not expensive to buy.

University student, can’t study, can’t concentrate, might fail all my courses this semester… OMG. HELP ME!!?

Posted by admin on November 16th, 2009 and filed under university home page | 5 Comments »

I’m a 3rd or 4th yr university student. I was hoping to graduate in 2010 ut i wont get enough credits finished by then so it looks like 2011 would be it… if i do graduate in 2011, it would have been 5 frickin years in university.
I was all happy and excited abt going to university but since i’ve started, i can only think about finishing. I HATE SCHOOL. I hate everything about it, i am going crazy.
right now.. i can’t concentrate on assignments, that is my main problem. I can do quizzes and exams, no problem. But when it comes down to me going home and doing these various assignents and quizzes… i just can’t do it. I dont understand why!!
I turned off the tv, i’ve eaten, i’m in a quiet place… all that nice stuff thats supposed to be "study friendly" but i can’t concentrate on anything. I’ve only done 1 paragraph of a 5 page summary in two weeks… I’m at my wits end because at this rate i would fail all my courses and take even longer to graduate.
The government is paying for me to go to school for 5 yrs. If i drop out or miss a semester, i have to pay for the missed semester or for the entire time i’ve been going to school before dropping out……
I dont know what to do, i’m going crazy… somebody please help me.
I work full time and go to class on evenings. My work environment isn’t stressful at all so work is not negatively impacting my school lif. I even have time at work to do assignments. But… it never gets past a paragraph or two.
I am also married but my marrige life doesn’t bother my school life either. My husband is really supportive but he thinks that i don’t try hard enough.
I try to give myself incentives and rewards. But that only makes me feel worse because no matter how hard i try… it still never gets done and i end up crying over my laptop because its frustrating that even the little petty incentives and rewards are unattainable…

(OMG you sound so much like me its scary) Except I have already failed a year. I am actually crying today because I could not study for a major repeat examination. I cant concentrate at work either but as i need to motivate myself more to do this assignment which is done pretty much on my own its worse. i know the root cause of the problem however in my case is due to past experience which has affected my concentration. I am working on that but its gotton really bad at the moment. I wonder if its something similar thats causing your problem, maybe not. With the aim of being supportive and not patronising I think that your case is not that bad especially as you hav not mentioned work being a problem. If all else fails and you are at breaking point I think you should talk to your doctor and ask about medication that may help even if is only temporally. I am very much against retalin or any of those meds and try to cope with these problems through other coping mechanisms but am actually considering it at the moment.

Il give you one piece of advice that i wished i had taken so that i wouldnt fail and that is try and ask your lecturers or the lecturer who is a gotoo for your year for help youd be surprised there are probably other people who feel like you and who have asked for help and not told anyone. You could probably submit pieces to them so that you constantly feel that pressure so that you dont procrastinate. Also try the counsellor they actually help people who have your problem. It may be physiological and caused by other issues also. I hope you get on well any best of luck. Sorry if i sound kinda depressing I dont think youl fail.
Also do you get pannicky because you dont believe in yourself and feel youl fail ,i used to sometimes, you need to overcome this and try to believe in yourself if you do.
Also I was inspired by a friend of mine who on her day off completed half of her assignment. Maybe you should try and say im going to do it today and if you are unsuccessful that day dont give up persist every day until you complete one thing and the next day try again . Treat it maybe like trying to give up junk food. Im not sure if this is recommendable but I try to think that I dont know what will happen at the weekend or tomorrow or whatever that will prevent me from doing the assignment then with the aim to motivate myself to do it in the present and prevent procrastination.
maybe trying to have a more get up and go attitude to life in general might help you. maybe you should try to think im going to do my best at the things i need to do today also.
Try to find out what exactly it is about assignments that you cant get your head around maybe you need specific advice on these from a lecturer or a student tutor.

Album artwork used in university assignment?

Posted by admin on November 13th, 2009 and filed under university home page | 1 Comment »

I have created a mock-up home page for a website for a university assignment. The website is for music streaming and is entirely fictitious.
In order to make my mock-up look good, rather than just having "image will be here" written everywhere, I was told to actually put images in there.
I have used some album artwork, and was told by my lecturer that this would be fine as long as I specified that this was copyrighted work and would be paid for if the website was published, and also cited the copyright holder. He also said something about Wikipedia’s use of artwork, and see what they said about it, and write something echoing what they say.
I’m just double checking if this is definitely OK?
Please note that I am in the UK.

Strictly speaking, your lecturer is incorrect insofar as citation does not affect copyright infringement. For example, if you make copies of a CD and try to sell it, it doesn’t matter how much you cite the copyright owner.

That being said, the likelihood of a copyright owner spending money to pursue a student in an infringement is probably nil. And that’s assuming that the copyright owner even finds out about the fictitious website. How can they? You’re probably worried over nothing, in my opinion.

Ramadan: Would you go extreme & send an e-mail to the President of highly respected school?

last night my sister & I were looking to learn more about some of the Medical schools and ended up in The Johns Hopkins University home page. What I found was not only surprising, but also outrageous. In the sideshow featured in the home page was a picture of group of Iraqi women, all wearing the burka, and small girl, not wearing any head-covering. On the side was a caption that read, "Seeing the possibilities of change". Seeing these Muslim women wearing the burka, the little girl without one, and the word change, set me off. Before I could jump to more conclusions, I clicked on the photo to learn more.e. It turned out the picture was referring to a goal to get more Iraqi women into the political arena, but thats what ticked us off because the homepage image can be very misleading to many.

So.. after this my sister & I sent in e-mail to Mr. Daniels [ President of John Hopkins ]

I were very polite about this ..we concluded

I hope that I have voiced opinions and concerns in a non-confusing and rational form. I highly respect all that Johns Hopkins University does and what it stands for. This was quite spontaneous on my part and I hope you will dismiss any errors in my email. In the future, I would suggest greatly analyzing the content your website exhibits, especially, materials that deal with such a high heat topic. I also hope I have not offended you or Johns Hopkins University in my rant. I wish you and the university the best of luck in the future.

@diamond- srry sis i meant without her hijab..i apologize

Probably not because the women have a right to modify or change their religion.

    University of Utah??? International Scholarship?

Posted by admin on October 26th, 2009 and filed under university home page | 1 Comment »

Does anyone knows anything about this University?

I heard they provide international scholarship, but how to apply there? as I look on it’s home page, i can only find the spring-program scholarship, I want to go to study there. if there’s such a chance, could I get that chance to be an American citizen?

This is my first time to ever look for international scholarship online, so please forgive me.

    Thank You So Much!!!

This webpage gives a lot of great information:
    http://www.sa.utah.edu/admiss/Inter.htm
Once you apply and are accepted, then you will meet with (or have a phone interview) with someone from financial aid who will help you out as far as money goes. Good luck! It’s a long process and it looks like you have to meet a lot of requirements to get it… but it is a GREAT school… especially if you plan on going into medicine! (I went to it’s rival, Brigham Young University, which is an hour south of Salt Lake City… and my sister went to the University of Utah)

can my college reademails i write from my home computer, even though my default page is that of the university

As long as you put the correct email address in the send to box and there’s nothing wrong with your friend’s email (inbox full, account suspended and so on), he should be able to read it

    College Essay..help!!! ?

Posted by admin on October 18th, 2009 and filed under university home page | 1 Comment »

They have a question for me to write an essay about but I don’t understand what it is asking? I was thinking that it meant how am I going to help S.U. or how Id help the community and how it’s reflect back on S.U? does either of those sound right? Does it have anything to do with what major I intend to go for, or is it just a general question?
