The teacher’s name was Johnny Adams and he took my email address!I just want to know if I got on the course or not, and when I phone hm he’s never in his office!
First of all relax you seem very up tight about this it will all work out. From the e-mail you received you are invited to join the group. Go to the group and find out what it is all about? In the mean time find other groups or courses you could take just in case this one is not the one for you. Best Wishes.
Hello. I’m doing a survey for my final year project and I would appreciate it if you guys can help me out. Y’see I’m building a video game website which handles not only recent and newer games and consoles but also old ones. Y’know like Pong, Atari 2600, MSDOS and NES kinda old. I want to know if there is a market for a website to handle both new and old games/consoles altogether.
So my questions are: (Please answer each question with a simple yes or no answer with a short sentence(s) of why do you say so)
Eg. "Yes/No. Because…"
+Do you people/gamers still have love for the retro games and would check ‘em or talk about ‘em in eBay, forums, and video game websites (GameSpot, GameSpy, GameTrailers, IGN, etc)?
+Do you like it if there would be a website which handles BOTH new and old retro games altogether instead of having old games being put in forums as a secondary or a last minute entry?
+Do you think it’s cool to have ALL the existing video game consoles (From the PONG era til the PS3 era) listing down in the Home Page with the latest News about the old & new?
+We all love the next gen consoles but do you still love the old retro games?
Keep in mind that this is not going to be an official website as I’m doing this only for my University project and your feedback means a lot to me. Please answer them as instructed. Thank you!
Yes, Super NES counts!
I used to love playing Yie Ar Kung Fu for the Spectrum 48k+. The days of waiting half an hour for the title page to appear and then another half hour for the game to load are long long gone. The kids today dont know what they’re missing!

He did’nt seem very happy with the way that I conducted the interview and because of my lack of technical knowledge told me that the only way I’d be getting on the course is if I get Merits in all the technical studies of the course that I was doing at that time but I’ve only got one Distinction from that course as far as the technical side is concerned!I’m so worried and confused!
Having Merits were not the uusal requirement to get on the course but I duisplayed to him a lack of knowledge technically speaking and he seemed angry when he said that to me as he had his arms crossed and said that I might struggle on the course.But at the same time I had a giood reference from an educational establishment where I learnt a bit about editing but he did not have it with him and told me that he could’nt find it!Why is my life just so hard?
Which university?
Be careful as some organisations style themselves "University" when they are no such thing.
Frankly I cannot see how an interview with a university would lead to you getting such an e-mail. If the university had accepted you on the course that you were interviewed for, they would have written to you at your private address on university paper to confirm it.
E-mails purporting to come from Yahoo are common and are spoofs from people who have noticed your interest in a particular subject and are trying to exploit you. They have nothing to do with university courses.
If it was a recognised university, write or phone the university where you were interviewed and tell them you had been told you would be contacted and that you have not heard anything, then ask what the position is.
I started university in Edinburgh (on the outskirts) last Friday. My first lecture is in just over 3 hours, and I am writing this at 05:45. Reason being I cant sleep and severely thinking about jumping out the window as had enough.
I came here to get a very good degree. I love helping people so doing a healthcare course (for anyone wanting to challenge what I just said, I have known even the best doctors to be suicidal). I aim to come out with a 2:1 or a 1:1 Honours by the end, however, the university is making me want out.
I suppose much has happened over the past few days; I got "dumped" by a guy I had been casually seeing for the past two years who I liked, on Sunday, and am stressing about my lectures.
The thing that no one gets though and seems to take the piss out of is the excessive noise. So it’s Freshers Week and I understood it was going to be like that, but not to the levels I have been experiencing. When I walked past Block A last night heading to the gym, I had abuse shouted at me from silly little boys out the window. It wasnt even jokingly, they were making revolting comments and cat calling.
All night I couldnt sleep. I was awoken by my supposingly considerate flatmates at 2am when they came in and we otherwise made a pact with one another to be considerate in regards to noise at times like that (eg when up in the morning, I always shut the doors quietly for them). One of them decided to even rearrange her furniture loudly! Problem is her bed is directly against my wall, so every time she moves it, mine vibrates. She must have done it a dozen or so times, as in the end I banged on the wall for her to stop.
At 04:30, I had to contact security who were very sympathetic to my call, as there were students who were literally legless congregating outside my block shouting, screaming and generally being loud. I think security have moved them on, but it’s not the point.
Like I said, came here to do well, not go and party and get legless each night. I have posted a few statuses on my Facebook page saying just how pissed off I am, but no one is taking me seriously. On one, I mentioned getting woken up when I had to be up early to attend a mature students thing, and my cousins think it’s hilarious and make comments like "Are you at uni or in an old peoples home lol", and "Thought you was supposed to be a rebel". Even my friends have started doing it.
Wondering now because I am not being taken seriously if I should even put after "Hate being a student and want to jump out the top window" to make them shut up.
For those going on about student life, I dont expect this to this degree. Even tempted to take this to the principal. Sick of the abuse being shouted down to me every time I walk past that block, and severely worried I am going to have a breakdown.
Any advice appreciated. In particular, how can I get my fellow cousins and "mates" to take me seriously?
Been there, doing that. My period in the dorm seemed interminable, especially at first. Definitely wasn’t used to the drunken shoutings, pointless interruptions, and awkward roommate tension in a place that is supposed to be your home. Of course, everyone is expected to blend into that whole Animal House thing. I think university years are sometimes just rigorous tests to see who makes it out alive. Or graduated. Anyway, don’t let it all wear you down because even though it seems like there is nobody who has the same views you do, there are. Finding people who are relaxed and not into the party/wasted stupor scene will help you get some of your issues off your chest. Also, even though you’re technically at school, try to give yourself some slack. Hard work has to be tempered by letting yourself do something you enjoy on a regular basis, whether it’s a hobby or hanging out with people or just sitting and thinking. If your roommates are seriously uncooperative, see if it’s possible to move. Also, is your campus has student counseling services, go. They are really helpful, even more so because they are specialized to the particular point in life you’re at. This is the best advice I can offer and best wishes in sticking it out.
Dear Abhishek,
The QuestBridge National College Match program helps outstanding high school seniors from low-income backgrounds to gain admission and full four-year scholarships to some of the nation’s most selective colleges. I would like to invite you to consider whether you are eligible to apply for this opportunity.
QuestBridge works with selective colleges that are actively seeking students who have achieved academic excellence in the face of economic obstacles. You may be concerned about tuition costs, but leading colleges offer generous financial aid packages that make them very affordable for low-income students.
Last year, more than 1,000 QuestBridge National College Match applicants were admitted to our partner colleges with generous financial aid, and 260 of these students received College Match scholarships covering the following costs:
* Full cost of tuition (up to $40,000 per year)
* Full cost of room and board (up to $15,000 per year)
Our 26 partners include many of the nation’s top-ranked universities and liberal arts colleges, such as:
* Amherst College
* MIT
* Pomona College
* Princeton University
* Stanford University
* Yale University
QuestBridge is a nationally-recognized non-profit program. Our organization has worked for 15 years to help high-achieving low-income students access top-tier educational opportunities. We received your information from the College Board, and based on our experience, we believe that you have the potential to be a competitive applicant to selective colleges.

Also,I have been getting mails for filing fast flyer applications from Illinois Institute of Technology,Florida U,Butler,NYU,St Johns.Are they genuine?
Ecxept IIT and Nyu these Univs are mostly crap.???
Ajax:
QuestBridge is a legitimate, and very highly regarded non-profit organization that matches high-achieving students from low-income families with top colleges and financial aid. Of all of the supposed "college assistance" organizations out there, QuestBridge is certainly one of the most indispensable.
Just as one form of verification, you can read this article from Yale’s daily student paper, the Yale Daily News. Written last year, it describes how Yale’s newly-begun participation in the QuestBridge National College Match program has brought a new group of talented, but low-income students to the elite Ivy League school. You’ll find that article here: http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/university-news/2008/01/25/questbridge-brings-new-faces-to-yale/
Definitely take the time to learn about QuestBridge - it won’t cost you a penny to take advantage of their amazing services. There’s a lot to learn, because the program has some very early deadlines, but it’s well worth your while.
As for the flyers that you’ve been receiving - your school district sells the names of graduates to schools that participate in a data gathering service. Often, those lists are classified by things like academic rank, which will allow schools to target students who would seem to have the profile that they’re looking for. Other schools use a more scattergun approach - sending information packets and postcards to just about anyone who happens to be graduating soon.
I don’t see a single school on your list that’s not a well-known, legitimate program. The University of Florida, Butler, and St. John’s are all schools with outstanding academic reputations. None of these are Ivy League, but Florida, for example, was ranked as the 42nd best school in the country by US News and World Report this year, and St. John’s is one of the top Catholic universities in the US.
Definitely check out QuestBridge - it’s a great opportunity for you.
Good luck!

Hi I plan on attending Stony Brook University beginning Fall 2008. On the Orientation home page it says that all new students must take a writing placement exam which has to be submitted online 2 weeks before your scheduled orientation date. It also says you will be exept from this if you recieved a grade of 3 or higher on the AP Language or Literature Exam. I did not take AP Lit but I am taking AP Language as a senior and doing well in it. Orientation is in July but we don’t even get our AP grades until the very beginning of July, so I am confused on what to do! Also, if you want to take any math related courses at Stony Brook you must take a proctored exam. But what if I don’t want to take a math course, do I have to? it dosen’t say it is mandatory to take the exam so I am confused also on this. Can anyone help me??
Here are the websites: http://naples.cc.sunysb.edu/CAS/writingplacement.nsf
http://assess.math.sunysb.edu/
Contact Admissions and tell them about the AP Language course - you probably will be okay, especially if you have already taken some AP course and done well.
And you don’t have to worry about the math test because it doesn’t apply to you.
Good luck - SB is an excellent school - Are you thinking of going to Med School?
I read an advert in yesterday’s Indian Express (7th Aug.08, Mumbai)
The Advert was for ‘Admission for Distance Learning’ for a post graduate diploma in Human Rights. The institute advertising the diploma admissions is called Indian Institute of Human Rights.
I checked out the website www.rightsedu.org and found it’s affiliations and job prospects quiet impressive.
Untill i noticed that the Text logo and fonts at the bottom of each page was quiet ‘fancy’ for an ‘official’ website.
Also on a closer look at the photographs of the Director of the institute i noticed the photographs of him and with famous dignitaries were morphed photos, they are all unreal photos. Also he is quiet young to be a director of such a ‘prestigious’ institution, because it requires men/women of experience and caliber to run such institutions.
This institute doesn’t ask for original mark sheets of the students, all it asks is for a photocopy of the bachelors mark sheet and money(fees) to be sent.
As per my knowledge, any university requires original documents for attesting before granting admission to a student. Admission is NEVER done on the basis of a photocopy only.
I sent them an email asking them if they required my original documents, and they sent me back a reply which did not answer my query.
Here’s a small excerpt from my email;
"Thanks for your e-mail displaying interest in the Two Years Post Graduate Programme in Human Rights conducted by Indian Institute of Human Rights.
This is to inform you that you may take admission in the said course by downloading the Admission form from our website www.rightsedu.net and send us the application form alongwith the following documents:
(i) Four passport size photographs.
(ii) Graduation marksheet or certificate photocopy.

Looking forward to having you as a student of Human Rights.You can download the form from our website."
The websites suggested to me in the email turned out to be fake i.e. they are all invalid URL, except for the "job" website.
So,
How can i stop them from cheating thousands of innocent students who might end up sending money to this institute?
Please check out this website for yourself, don’t forget to look at the photos in "The Institute" link presented on the home page.
If you know the right government, police, crime branch or related authorities i can contact, it would be appreciated.
P.s. Regarding the photos, save them to your computer and then zoom in on them in fax and picture viewer.
Check out the one with our PM, the PM’s looking in another direction and the ‘Institute Director’ is looking in another direction even though they are face to face.
Almost every pic with a black background has been morphed, you can clearly see that the Director’s pic has been cut out and pasted in whichever particular event that has been photographed.
You can report it to the Indian authorities… However, the simple fact is that they are probably located somewhere else… Possibly a small third world country where India does not have a treaty and thus cannot or will not easily be touched by them. The fact is that you need to keep making complaints against them and hopefully, after a number of complaints, people will be aware and when they do an internet search, will see the fraud allegation sites as well as the fraud site itself…
Good luck!
