And as a former NSU …
And as a former NSU member I would expect you not to give either HU credit. Both bands have a big fan base and clearly you are one of em cuz this topic doesnt even have anything to do with NSU..people were commenting about the HU classic NOT NORFOLK OR A&T. Both Hu’s are respected band programs inthe MEAC in spite of you being delusional over NSU. We can go back and forth but you will see it your way and i’ll seeit mine..as well as the people who go to the battles, which are clearly not lopsided

      sounds like a good …
sounds like a good highschool band meac bands suck SWAC is where it’s at.

    5. Askanison29 Says:

      Norfolk took a …
Norfolk took a beaten by FAMU in ‘98, but that was the only school they took a beaten to that year..EVERYBODY ELSE! got waxed.
MSU went down to FAMU and raised the stakes on them, I think MSU was waaay slept on..probably by HIU too. Showtime and the Force were not top bands, they may have been near the middle but top…thats a complete overstatement.

    6. Askanison29 Says:

      BULL! as a Former …
BULL! as a Former Pirate I would expect some nudge at NSU but you dang on well the only year NSU had thatwas weak was ‘97. 1995 they was killing HIU, 1996 and in 1998 and 1999 they just mopped the floor with both HU’s. A&T came up to HU and literally ran them out of thier stadium…twice!

    7. Blakmajik78 Says:

      Yeah well im sure …
Yeah well im sure there are MANY who will strongly disagree…bastardized? nah…not EVEN near close…The Showtime band and The Force both were top MEAC bands then. There were very few times were A&T, NSU or MSU created a lopsided battle with these two bands..especially MSU! If they did, both HU’s got revenge whether A&T or NSU admitted it…i;ve seen both HU’s outshine NSU and HU a few times. Matter of fact 95-99 had to be NSU weakest years. FAMU ized them and A&T was regrowing then.

    8. Askanison29 Says:

      As far as nobody …
As far as nobody giving HIU any trouble in the 90’s…you’re joking right? Yeah I remember in 98′ I think it was when BCC came to y’all homecoming and served that up real nice it was tragic, I also remember NSU coming over that year and decimating y’all. I think we just hung in different band circles in the 90’s you were either in the band or just learning the culture but I was directing well into the 90’s. I saw alot of the games and neither HU was doing much of anything

    9. Askanison29 Says:

      MSU was much more …
MSU was much more entertaining, their field shows were just long winded. The only talk DSU was getting was the fact that their band director situation continuously changed. They was supposed to have been revamped but even that attempt was kinda lackluster. MSU was small but was also very good and always musically consistent.

    10. Askanison29 Says:

Ook I think we just …
Ook I think we just see things differently. In my opinion the only HU band that was wor1h anything in the 90’s was in ‘97 when they had that HU/UDC?DCPS High School conglomeration. HU was NOT ging toe to toe with A&T or NSU one or two years in the 90’s they made some noise but they were not going toe to toe and you know it.. They were constantly getting ized by those schools

    11. Blakmajik78 Says:

      hmm thats funny …
hmm thats funny because from what I remember Hampton didnt see FAMU much and the only school that gave Hampton trouble alot was BCU (BCC at the time) in the 90’s Hampton and Howard went toe to toe with NSU and A&T..thats why the HIU/NSU and HU/NCA&T rivalriest sparked. SCSU was another slept on band in the 90’s too…Morgan kinda hid the shadows because their band was small…actually it was more talk of Del State than MSU back then…but anyway…the HU classic was really a top MEAC game.

    12. Askanison29 Says:

      Knights by Knoghts …
Knights by Knoghts by Cameo HU got it from Jackson who used to drill to it and Eastern got it from HU when Boyd became the band director.

    13. Askanison29 Says:

      People keep talking …
People keep talking about the HU battles but what people aren’t saying is that battle was roughl the second game of tghe season which was good for both groups but for the rest of the year both bands always looked sub par when facing other schools FAMU, BCU, NSU and A&T and yes even MSU.

    14. TMBassBoy Says:

      This is definitely …
This is definitely my favorite HU song! Showtime in the building! HU You Know!

Yes we sure did get suspended that yr lol, that was the yr we told A&T to put it in their mouth and they were mad with us too,LOL!!!

    17. Blakmajik78 Says:

      I marched with …
I marched with Hampton from 98 to 01…the HU classic was one of the best games in the meac…it actually started outshinning our classic with Norfolk State. It drew bigger crowds, more party and more media. They should bring this game back to that stadium because it would help both band programs tremendously. 1999 had to be one of the best beatings we gave howard …but they got with us a few times too. Much love to BOTH HU’s they are the slept on bands in the MEAC..return to the excellence!

    18. Vamply Says:

You hit the nail on …
You hit the nail on the head. I graduated from Howard in ‘01 (Yes, I actually finished in 4 YEARS!!!!) and The Real HU vs. Hampton was THE BATTLE! I think after Howard played Akinyele’s “Put It In Your Mouth” at RFK stadium, they received so much media attention that they had to “class it up” but don’t trip. You know just like I do that Howard will break it down when necessary.

Famu & BCU(Cookman) Fan here. As i sit here on 1 of Florida’s beautiful beaches listening to som e maxwell and getting my groove on i simply ask this question. Why are Howard’s clips so short? I actually dig your Go-Go sounds and you have some “FINE” sis. in your band. SHOW MORE SHOWTIME!
