  • Michael Steele Town Hall at Howard University Interrputed By Health Care Reform Advocates | 9/1/09

Posted by admin on September 4th, 2009 and filed under university howard |

Michael Steele speaking at Howard University. A pro-health care reform advocate by the name of Amanda Duzak and a few friends of her’s interrupted with a whole lot of passion. Duzak says that her mother died of cancer because she couldn’t afford the insurance. Steele seems to think she cares more about getting on TV than anything else.

I’m may eventually disable comments only because I don’t want too much arguing and have my inbox spammed. I hope that we can all agree that Steele’s behavior, however, was incredibly inappropriate.

Steele is out of his league intellectually and spiritually. I don’t think he will ever come to his senses. Congrats to the students who challenged him at Howard.

LOL, so when people are protesting democrats and health care their voicing their freedom of speech but when it’s against steele, we’ll obviously there just doing it cause they want to be on tv. Whole new meaning to hypocrisy.

      He’s talking to …
He’s talking to these young ppl as though they are 9th graders in a civics class. These are college students! They aren’t idiots! These students voted last year; they are aware of the issues. Obama engaged yong ppl in the discussion of gov’t and policy in a way that hasn’t been done in over 35 years! Steel is out of touch. The outburst was a perfect time for him to outline RNC’s policies & how they would benefit her. Instead, he acted as immature as the young woman.

    8. autsim Says:

      Steele lost any …
Steele lost any opportunity for the RNC to gain any respect or support from young, educated Afr. Americans. To think that young ppl don’t see the importance of health ins. is erroneous & a prejudgement on his part. Young ppl face health crises as well; Asthma, ADHD and Juvenile Diabetes are the top diseases among youth. What will he tell these students when they can’t find a job after graduation & can’t get health ins. because they have a pre-existing conditions? He’s out of touch w/ reality!

    9. autsim Says:

      From what I …
From what I understand, most of the students in attendence were Political Science or pre-law majors. Howard University is the Ivy Leauge of HBCU’s. These students aren’t idiots. So to come to HU & give these students a pep-talk about who he went from being a poor black kid on 8th street to the token HNIC of the RNC is condescending.

      First off the fact …
First off the fact that he’s the head of the RNC is crazy in itself but what really kills me is knowing that no one in the Republican party like’s him nor respect him and he has the nerves to bring that right wing big business bs agenda to ah HBC, is like ah slap in the face. Then to try and relate his son’s concerns with Health insurance to someone who can’t afford Health insurance shows that he is completely out of touch with reality.

This guy has balls first off he’s the head of the RNC and he’s black, that’s crazy in itself but he actually continue to represent the Republican party when none of them like him nor respects him at all. As a black man it kills me to see how money and power controls this man because he’s not dumb at all. That has to be the only reason this a**hole is a GOP member.

    17. TheReturnOfStephan1 Says:

      Steele is a …
Steele is a repugnant hypocrite & liar. he claims to be against cutting Medicare, but, appearing on NBCs Meet The Press as a Senate candidate in 2006, Steele said that cuts to Medicare absolutely had to be on the table in order to control runaway federal spending. What’s really pathetic is how easily his lies get exposed. That his “response” received applause is going to reinforce the notion of a lack of intelligence in our community. Sad.

Miss Duzak deserves an apology .. How rude can you be. Mr. Steele was very distasteful and if that is what represents the republican party .. I want nothing to do with it .

    19. realgoodscoobysnacks Says:

      People have paid …
People have paid way to much with blood and life and fought the good fight way to hard to allow a ungrateful dirtbag like Steele carry on like this at Howard. Howard alumni need to share their displeasure with the university. This is completely unacceptable.

    20. realgoodscoobysnacks Says:

      Shame on Howard …
Shame on Howard University for letting this scum bag spew his lies and other nonsense on their campus. Where was the opposition? This er has made his bed with out right racist, anti-minority, anti-poor people, and anti-democratic forces. And he can spread his thoughtless nasty horrorible message of hatred at a HBC and nobody says . Do people realize that Steele’s crowd wants to destory and even cause physical harm to our president? Color does not equal kind.

    21. MidnightChimes Says:

      Anyone who thinks …
Anyone who thinks the Republicans want to preserve benefits for the elderly need to remember they were the ones that wanted to privatize social security.

Can you imagine what Wall Street would have done with that money?

I don’t know what happened to my last post, so I will post it again.

What a hypocrite and a liar.

The Rethugs illegally interrupt every single Democratic town hall meeting with threats of violence.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to lie. They should be prosecuted under the RICO Act and U.S. Patriot act for being domestic terrorists.

    25. RawFoodKevin Says:

      What a hypocrite!

      What a hypocrite!

He presumes to lecture them about the rules of civility when at the same time, the Rethugs actively and illegally disrupt every single town hall meeting with Democratic speakers.

Freedom of speech does not give anyone the right to lie. The Republican lies are indeed criminal because their intent is to bring down a Constitutionally elected government with violence.

They need to be prosecuted under the RICO Act, as well as the U.S. Patriot Act. They are DOMESTIC TERRORISTS!!!
